Texas
Give me a T for Texas! Everything here is huge including the amount of hunting acreage and available species. Throw in the fact that this is one of the most hunter friendly states and……let’s go to Texas already!
This humungous state is the 2nd largest in the nation. Just ask a Texan, they’ll tell you all about it. This state has the most counties in the country as well, 254. There are 137 different species to hunt, some of them only available in Texas, across the expansive 268,581 square miles that make up the Lonestar State.
Because of the area that is covered, Texas has quite a diverse climate. The northern part of the state is usually colder in the winter time and the Gulf of Mexico consists of normal to warm winters. Snowfall occurs several times a year in West Texas’ mountainous areas and the Panhandle, but in the southern region snow hardly ever falls. Humidity varies through-out the state, with the highest amount being found in and around Houston. Hurricanes can also be found here in case you were looking, and they can be devastating. Hurricane season is in the late summer early fall time of year, so be prepared if visiting during that time period.
Another by-product of Texas’ size is its highly diverse terrain. This state consists of the Interior Lowlands, Great Plains, Basin Province, Range Province, Gulf Coastal Plains, mountains, over 3,700 named streams, and 15 major rivers. Yes, this state is ideal for a hunter.
The state’s highest elevation point is the Guadalupe Peak at 8,751 feet above sea level. It resides in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. The lowest elevation point is at even sea level on the Gulf of Mexico.
Whether you’re looking for a hunting preserve, hunting guide, or your own self-guided trip, Texas gives you that opportunity. Whatever species you’re looking for in whatever environment can be found here. Without a doubt, this state is leading the charge when it comes to hunting.

Bobwhite Quail. Just one species that awaits in Texas.
